Not less than 18 people have been confirmed dead at the a boat accident in the Mediterranean Sea while going to take refuge in Europe.
Aljazeera reported that 18 bodies were recovered from two separate refugee boats sinking with many more feared missing.
The 18 people were crossing to Europe to seek greener pasture . And their boat accidents were unrelated.
According to Aljazeera News, one boat sank off the island of Lesbos when it encountered strong winds while the second boat crashed in another location at the the rocky cliff off the island of Kythira at same Sea. This was also as a result of strong winds on Wednesday evening.
The boat that crashed off the island of Lesbos in the Mediterranean sea was carrying 40 people on board who were all women. 16 of the women were found dead on Thursday morning. 9 of them were saved alive. while 15 were still missing. But boat and helicopter searches are still ongoing.
Nevertheless, the second boat was carrying about 95 refugees.80 were rescued alive, 2 were found dead on Thursday morning. Others are yet to be seen.
The boat was seen smashed against the rocks and people were seen climbing those rocks to try to save themselves.
However, residents went down the harbour to help. Fire service and Naval officials wee seen struggling to help people.
Local official said a school in the vicinity would will be used as shelter to those rescued.
