The Haitian Prime Minister has been declared “persona non grata” by Dominican Republic government

According to African and Caribbean Moments, President Luis Abinader announced that Haitian Prime Minister, Ariel Henry has been declared “persona non grata” in the Dominican Republic. And he is no longer welcomed in his country indefinitely for security reasons.

Nevertheless, this official decision follows the refusal just days ago of the Dominican authorities to allow a private plane carrying Henry to land on their soil.

However, in less than two days after the incident, multiple sources report that Haiti’s Prime Minister Ariel Henry has tendered his resignation and appealed for calm as the country descends into chaos.

Meanwhile, 74-years old Ariel announced he would step aside late on Monday following an emergency meeting of regional nations.

Haiti has been plagued by violence in recent weeks as armed gangs have taken control, calling for Ariel Henry to leave.

Following the meeting in Jamaica where Caribbean states called for a swift transition, Henry who has led Haiti unelected since the 2021 assassination of her last president address people through video recording.

He stated thus:

“The government that I am leading will resign immediately after the installation of [a transition] council,” Henry said. “I’m asking all Haitians to remain calm and do everything they can for peace and stability to come back as fast as possible.”
