Nigeria To Witness Total Eclipse Of The Moon.

Nigerians from every nook and cranny of the country will experience lunar eclipse otherwise known as blood moon on Friday, July 27 – According to report, the blood moon will be the longest blood moon of the 21st century – A blood moon occurs when earth’s moon is in full eclipse There will be a total lunar eclipse otherwise known as blood moon on Friday, July 27 and Nigeria and most part of the world would experience one of the greatest astronomical spectacles of the 21st century. The Guardian reports that a blood moon happens when earth’s moon is in full eclipse and has no special astronomical significance, rather, the view in the sky is striking as the usually whitish moon becomes red or ruddy-brown.Reportngr.com  notes that Nigerians from every nook and cranny will experience total lunar eclipse, which would be fully visible in Lagos. It would be the longest lunar eclipse of the 21st century. Report also said that on July 27, Mars will pass closer to earth than it has done for 15 years. This will make the red planet appear larger and brighter than normal in the night sky.

The blood moon that will occur on Friday, July 27, has been confirmed by the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Abuja, and the United States National Aeronautic Space Agency (NASA). The head of media and corporate communications of NASRDA, Dr Felix Ale, said: “The eclipse in Nigeria will start around 6:44pm as partial eclipse and developed into a total eclipse around 7:30pm. “The total eclipse will last for about 1 hour and 43 minutes, making it the longest total lunar eclipse of the 21st century. “If earth partially blocks the sun, and the darkest part of its shadow falls across the moon’s surface, it is called a partial eclipse.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that an annular eclipse was experienced in some parts of Nigeria on September 1, 2017. The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) earlier announced that the eclipse would be experienced between the hours of 7.15am and 10.03am with slight variations in actual timing across the country, advising Nigerians not to panic.
