FEDERAL GOVERNMENT RECALLS RETIRED DOCTORS AND NURSES TO FIGHT COVID19

Federal Government of Nigeria has stated that retired doctors and nurses could be recalled in all states to assist in the fight against coronavirus.

The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire said that 36 people had so far been infected with coronavirus in Nigeria.

26 of them have travel history while 6 had contacts with infected persons in different areas.

Furthermore, the Health Minister added that four of the infected persons had no travel history. Or any known contact with a confirmed case. They cannot picture exactly how they became infected.

However, the minister said one death had so far been recorded.

The Minister was quoted as saying :

“The federal government have advised that some states should issue a call for retired doctors and nurses to be able to be reabsorbed and come back to service for this particular period if the need arises. They can be recalled back to active duty. They are in the reserved pool”

It should be recalled that NCDC via its Twitter account stated as follows :

“Former managing director of the Petroleum Pricing Monitoring Corporation Aisha Suleiman Achimugu has died of coronavirus, multiple sources said on Monday” read the report.

This has been confirmed by the NCDC via its Twitter account shortly.

The 1st #COVID19 death in Nigeria has been recorded. The case was a 67 year old male who returned home following medical treatment in UK He had underlying medical conditions- multiple myeloma & diabetes & was undergoing chemotherapy Our thoughts are with his family.
